Learn from assessment and curriculum experts on how best to use formative assessments and how to use that data to inform instruction.

Join John Wojcik, Instructional Math Coach at North Syracuse CSD, Melissa Hurt, Solutions Engineer, Instructure, and Brad Hytrek, Regional Director, Instructure as we learn how to use formative assessments to check student progress and how to use the data received to inform instruction.  Attendees will also learn how to understand the why behind the need to align learning objectives and instructional strategies to assessment expectations.

John Wojcik is the Instructional Math Coach for North Syracuse Central School District. John has been an Instructional Math Coach for grades Kindergarten thru 12th for the last six years. During his tenure as an Instructional Math Coach, he has designed pacing guides for virtual and hybrid learning models, created benchmark assessments, created essential grade-level standards, led district math committees, and lead building, and grade-level and district-level data meetings. John has worked with textbook companies to roll out a new math series from Kindergarten through 7th grade. he has also designed and delivered Professional development classes for administrators and teachers in his district. Prior to becoming an instructional math coach, John worked for 12 years as an elementary school teacher.

Melissa Hurt is a Solutions Engineer with Instructure. She has a Masters of Education Leadership, spent 12 years as a classroom teacher, and supported content area teachers in Mathematics, Science, and Foreign Language as an Instructional Supervisor. Her experience in the classroom, both as a teacher and student and as an Instructional supervisor gives her an in-depth and varied view of assessments and the importance of assessment in a student’s learning journey.

Brad Hytrek is the Regional Director for the Northeast for Mastery Connect. He has over 25 years of experience working with school districts to build sustainable assessment programs that give districts the data they need to increase student outcomes.
