What is NYSCATE?
The New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education is an educational, not for profit organization which seeks to promote the effective use of technologies for quality education.
NYSCATE fosters collaborative efforts to integrate technologies in instruction across the curriculum and disseminates information designed to assist educators in enhancing the management and effectiveness of thelearning environment.
NYSCATE has drawn strength and support from its talentedand diverse membership since 1965. With a current membership of over 20,000members, all regions of the state are represented by teachers, administrators,technology coordinators and directors, school board members, parents, consultants, and business people. Membership is open to all who share a common interest in NYSCATE’s stated goals.
What is the Annual Conference?
Each year NYSCATE sponsors an annual statewide conference attended by 1,500 attendees and 150+ exhibitors showcasing exemplary education applications of technology. Half and full-day hands-on workshops take place on the first two days of the conference. Over 120 presentations by teachers and technology experts are given over the three day period.
NYSCATE recruits keynote speakers who are respected experts in their fields.
NYSCATE’S website provides links to educational resources and current issues as well as conference, seminar and grant information.
NYSCATE disseminates, through email blasts and newsletters, up to the minute information on issues and regulations relating to technology and education from both state and federal governments.
What services does NYSCATE offer its Members?
NYSCATE conferences and other staff development opportunities introduceeducators to new software and hardware that can increase the potential of bothstudents and teachers.
NYSCATE provides staff development in numerous areas from best practices inclassroom applications to new and emerging technologies NYSCATE has made its place in the field, introducing attendees to cutting-edge educational technology applications and services.
NYSCATE also offers an extensive awards program to recognize those New Yorkers who are outstanding in their fields, working diligently each day to help the organization achieve its mission. Each year the organization offers the following awards to deserving individuals:
NYSCATE has a competitive scholarship program, providing grants of up to $2500 for projects which link student achievement and technology. In addition, the organization partners with the Big Deal Book of Technology and sends out monthly emails and quarterly periodicals highlighting technology-related grant opportunities.
NYSCATE also sponsors several regional conferences across the state every year as well as partners with organizations such as ISTE and Tech Forum to offer discounts to its members for attendance at technology-related professional development events.
